POSSESSING YOUR POSSESSION

POSSESSING YOUR POSSESSION

See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.”

                                         Deuteronomy 1:8 NIV

This is the promise of God to the seed of Abraham. Go in and take possession of the Land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers. Life and godliness have been given to all men and the land which was mentioned is both the treasures upon the surface of the earth and the treasures in heaven.

In the book of Genesis, God made man out of his own image and commanded man to dominate his world. The word “dominate” means to subdue all things ( animals, environment).

God has called all men to dominate different spaces. He has called some into the space of law, medicine, business to expand their frontiers and dominate.

ARE YOU DOMINATING YOUR SPACE?

God desires that all his children prospers in all things living the fullness of life, Christ being his fullness.

This week, I would like to walk you through this journey of Faith as you and I take up the mantles placed upon our life to dominate our space.

BE COURAGEOUS

Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

                                               Joshua 1:6

What comes to mind when you think about Courage? Courage means boldness, confidence. I would like to be clear about this. The boldness and confidence here is learning to trust in him. We could see in the scripture that Abraham trusted in the Lord left his father's land to possess an unknown land. We all are in the journey of continually unravelling ourselves learning to trust in the Lord is the first big shift when it comes to possessing your possession.

The opposite of courage is Fear, living in fear is looking at the eternal and not learning to see that he that is within you is greater than he that is in the world ( 1John 4:4).

Fear is an illusion, it is like a thief that has come to steal, kill and destroy as God has given us dominion over this. I once remember when I was quite young I had an eye defect which was the biggest fear of my life as at then. I can remember while walking on the road all I saw was a nylon but my mind pictured it as a danger that taunted me for so many years as I couldn't live life to its fullness.

Fear is a chain which the Lord has empowered us all to conquer because we are of him. This fear could be seen in different areas of life.

  1. FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN

In the book of Jonah, we could see him being taunted because he was afraid to go when the Lord told him to. He was held captive by Fear because he failed to trust in the Lord but rather chose to trust in himself and his nature as human. Human nature naturally loves to figure out things but learning to trust the heart of God even when we don't see his hand would bring us into utmost victory.

2. FEAR OF SUCCESS

An enlightening example of the fear of success can be seen in Luke 5:1-11, here Jesus came to Peter and his friends to drop their nets after fishing for all day long but to no avail. Peter declared onto Jesus ‘Depart from me for I am a sinful man,  O Lord ( v. 8)’. The Fear of Success keeps people from going to the gate and possessing your possessions, probably because of a sense of unworthiness but remember you are a seed of Abraham so all these things have been given unto you. I once remember having a discussion with a friend who had an idea but held back because he was afraid he would be a success and thought he would fall into sin. Trusting that he that has started the good work in you would bring it to completion ( Phillipian 1:6)

3. FEAR OF REJECTION

Many people fall into this category. This fear is always depicted by the external. It is always about what others think and never about what you want. Peter denying Jesus thrice is a great example of this.

People hold back from possessing their possession because it never falls into the norms of what people would accept.

4. FEAR OF FAILURE

Failure is often seen as the opposite of Success. This is the biggest chain that holds many people back from possessing their treasure.

Failure is not often seen as what many think because in failing comes Success. Peter didn't walk upon the water because he was afraid to fail ( Matthew 14:28-33). Many people today live in fear of failure just like I once did. I remember having an idea in my mind but kept on procrastinating because I was busy afraid of being a failure I conquered after summoning courage to succeed.

Your Courage is in Christ, never in your ability nor in human. Today, decide to stop seeing that idea as just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes but rather trust in the Lord to walk you through the journey of possessing your possession.

Thanks for reading, hope to see you tomorrow.
